The studio is an introduction to the idea that form is slowly developed and gives students insight into the design process of creation, ideation and refinement. Starting with abstract idea fragments and visions of desirable spatial qualities students search for experiential qualities for their projects. The initial exercises are geared towards perception and translation to paper through expressive sketches, plan fragments and quick models. The ideas are documented and brought together to create a collage of drawings, sketches and photographs that communicates their architectural intent. Once the goal is established the program is given to them, to develop an ‘Interpretation Center’ that spreads awareness of traditional craft, culture and landscape. The studio then progresses into the resolution stage using an iterative design process, guided by inputs on various aspects of architecture, experience, context, climate, perceived function, structure. Students begin incorporating these ideas into their individual projects drawing set, plan / section. The form evolves as the idea is enriched and stress is laid on the communication of these ideas through architectural modes.
