Studio 7: Performance as Spectacle

The aim of this studio was to engage with the idea of narrative and seek interpretations of spatial experiences for the users within the setting of built form. This studio consists of three exercises.

Exercise 1:
Understanding of any 2 theatre forms and graphical representing in a poster.

Exercise 2:
Poetics of space - Exploring any of the theatre form interpreted in a previous exercise in the below mentioned monumental space. Negative void - Sevasi Stepwell, Vadodara or Positive void – Ahilya Fort, Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh

Exercise 3:
The idea of the studio was to create a performance area in the public realm of the campus for the theatre artists at Music College/ Faculty of performing Arts, Vadodara. This space was created to support an event happening at the campus for two different theatre forms. (15 min clip from Hamlet/ Nutcracker’s play)
1. Performance area (Core area of design addressing movement patterns, formations, lighting, music, props)
2. Exhibition space, café & green room (to be addressed at conceptual level for placement of the stage.)
