Studio 9: Architectural response to Cultural Landscape

Faculty team: Prof. Pratyush Shankar | Pragya Shankar | Ashna Patel

The studio is focused towards creating an architectural response to a strong cultural landscape. The learning objectives include the ability to interpret the idea of a cultural landscape and generate architectural response by taking a coherent design position and developing a clear design strategy to address it.
Short Project: Visitor Interpretation Centre
Architectural ruins symbolize a different era while transposing ourselves in time long gone and also confront our modern world, with an expression that seems almost binary opposite of the contemporary. This studio exercise focused on developing an architectural response to the ruins. The site is sandwiched between the Jami Mosque and the City Fortification of Champaner. This narrow parcel of land located between two significant architectural typologies is also strategically located along the flow of tourists and locals.

Main Project: Aravali Ecological Research Centre

A complex program involving research, administration, academics and public outreach that has to be addressed while answering the larger question of architectural production in historical cultural landscape.
